Sponsor Workshops:

  • Building And Composing Web 3 Protocols With Fluence and Aqua December 1 -In this workshop, we present the open Fluence p2p protocol, network, and open-source tooling, including Aqua, Fluence's peer-to-peer programming language. Moreover, we dive into code to illustrate the use of Fluence and Aqua to create distributed services and compose them into peer-to-peer applications. Add to calendar
  • Shield Workshop December 3 -Shield is building a one-of-a-kind decentralized protocol based on a fully non-cooperative game for future derivatives infrastructure, enabling global borderless access to finance. P2DP (Peer to Dual pools) is a new paradigm by Shield to bootstrap liquidity, allowing the private pool to hedge the market-making risk. The low-risk public pool can accommodate massive liquidity to guarantee abundant liquidity on the market. Add to calendar
  • SubQuery Workshop December 3 -SubQuery is a data indexing tool that allows developers to explore and transform on-chain data to build intuitive apps faster! Why Build Digital Public Goods?

The past year has seen an increasing public interest in Web 3. As a result, many people worldwide became aware of the value of Open Source Software, and more generally, "digital public goods."

Open-source research and development for blockchain platforms are more critical than present speculation in decentralized financial markets and the unsustainable races in proof of work mining. Fortunately, the diverse and vital Web 3 ecosystem is growing increasingly powerful, and many builders and funders make essential contributions to public protocol and application infrastructure that genuinely assist humankind.

Gitcoin Grants is one of the crucial funding flywheels for these initiatives. Utilizing a new matching funding mechanism known as Quadratic Funding, Gitcoin Grants is a more scalable and democratic grant-making program that steers increasing returns towards initiatives that benefit a broad community instead of things with only a few wealthy backers. As a result, public work in Web 3 is becoming an attractive career choice for builders to bypass shareholder-owned, for-profit arrangements as we know them from Web 2 (e.g., Alphabet, Amazon, and Meta.)

Moving forward with this accelerating impact by our community, we are now entering the 12th Gitcoin Grants round. Concurrently, as established, we are organizing a hackathon in the spirit of digital public goods: So, welcome to the Grants Round 12 Hackathon!

Two-Week Collaborative Event

We invite you to join us to learn about Web 3, connect with like-minded builders, and win prizes worth $390k. The event sponsors, ranging from more established to early-stage projects in the space, put up an exciting range of hackathon challenges around issues including "Decentralized Finance," "Non-Fungible Tokens," "Solarpunk," "Decentralized Autonomous Organizations," and "Web III" more generally.

Set Sail!

Sign up for the hackathon via the “Join now” button above. Select the ‘Hackathons & Events’ role in the #👋start-here channel in the Gitcoin Discord and find a team and connect with builders on the Gitcoin Discord in #😺team-up. Check for updates on the Gitcoin Discord in #🖖builders-general and #🦄gr12-hackathon and your email inbox. Finally, make sure to submit your projects by December 16th at 11:59 pm UTC.

Do I Have to Be a Developer?

No! We welcome anyone who brings dedication and experience to the hackathon. Whether you want to help as a designer, project manager, give product experience advice, write documentation, or do something else. Often the projects that do well at hackathons are the ones that focus on more than just code.

New to Decentralized Application Development?

If you're new to Ethereum, Web3, and decentralized application development, you are most welcome here! Below are some resources for you to learn the fundamentals and get hacking as quickly as possible.
