[_This repository serves only the purpose of creating issues for a gitcoin bounty. The bounty does not meet the cost of development outlined in this issue. It is intended to help initiate and bring attention to a very valuable project._]
This issue is to create a dictionary file of biased English terms to be used in an inclusive language spellchecker.
It should have words comparable to those in the inclusiveness feature of Microsoft Office since 2017.
The dictionary should be in a format that is easily machine parse-able.
The dictionary should be split into categories. For reference, Microsoft Office has the following categories in its inclusive language spell checker:
- Cultural Bias
- Disability Bias
- Ethnic Slurs
- Gender Bias
- Gender-Specific Language
- Sexual Orientation Bias
The dictionary should include most problematic terminology (I'm guessing ~500-1000 words) and should be easy for others to contribute to and use in their own project (i.e. open source with very permissive license).
A good first implementation of a inclusiveness spellchecker might be to convert these dictionaries into the personal dictionary format of the [aspell](http://aspell.net/) spellchecker. I couldn't find a spell checker that offered replacement words which is what we need here so a better long term solution might be a custom utility or modifying an existing spellchecker to support this feature. The implementation is not part of this issue nor the gitcoin bounty.
