The Redux way
timvanmourik
GiraffeTools, TimVanMourik, JavaScript, React, Redux
**Implement Redux for more transparent bookkeeping**
This application is slowly growing, and already I find it hard to keep track of all components and actions. One way of clearing things up is to resctructure the app with [Redux](https://redux.js.org). This is a way of describing the components, actions, and containers largely separately, which makes for a clearer overview of who's doing what.
**This issue**
This issue if for making this restructuring happen. The scope of this project is only the [porcupine code ](../tree/redux/app/porcupine/js) and I made a good headstart in the [redux branch](/TimVanMourik/GiraffeTools/tree/redux). Please continue working and sending PRs to this branch.
**Concrete goals**
A file structure is already set up and I used the 'Sidebar' class as an example. Separate all files into:// `/actions`, `/components`, `/containers`, and `/reducers`.
The reducers probably need to be grouped by
* [ ] Sidebar
* [ ] Nodes
* [ ] Parameters (tooltip)
* [ ] Scene
* [ ] maybe more, this list is subject to change
**Describe alternatives you've considered**
The Redux way somewhat complicates the code structure, but at the gain of much better state management. As the project is slowly getting out of hand, I believe this is the moment to start making the switch.
**Additional context**
I have learned most of my Redux knowledge from binge-watching this excellent tutorial:
https://egghead.io/courses/building-react-applications-with-idiomatic-redux
This tutorial is an explainer for the code from the main Redux example page:
https://redux.js.org/basics/example-todo-list
**Gitcoin**
This is the first cooperative bounty that I'm posting, so let's see how this plays out. I think this is a job for two or three people. I'd like to distribute the bounty evenly, unless there's a clearly unbalanced workload.
